Make a small contact sheet
Selecting photographs one at a time can make a series feel inconsistent. A contact sheet puts the images together at a small scale, where repeated shapes, colours and viewpoints become easier to see.
Choose a manageable group and give every image the same amount of space. Mark the photographs that add something different, not just the ones that look impressive on their own. Two excellent images can still perform the same role in a sequence.
Keep a copy of the first selection. Revisiting it later helps reveal whether an edit improved the story or merely made it more uniform.
